A venöse Blutentnahme is the drawing of blood from a vein. Since 2 July 2026 the ApoVWG permits it in pharmacies, carried out by a licensed pharmacist who has completed an ärztliche Schulung, on people aged 18 or over, for diagnostic purposes only.
A venöse Blutentnahme takes blood from a vein, which allows a much wider range of laboratory analyses than a capillary sample. Under § 11c Apothekengesetz, introduced by the ApoVWG, pharmacies have been permitted to offer it since 2 July 2026.
Three conditions apply at once. The person carrying it out must be an approbierter Apotheker who has completed an ärztliche Schulung with confirmed successful completion. The draw must be for a public pharmacy whose staff that pharmacist belongs to. The person having blood drawn must be at least 18.
Delegation is narrow. Only the puncture itself may be delegated, and only to a Pharmazeut im Praktikum under supervision who has completed their own ärztliche Schulung. Aufklärung, Anamnese and consent may never be delegated. Pharmazeutisch-technische Assistenten may not carry out the venöse Blutentnahme and the puncture may not be delegated to them, although they may support preparation and documentation. Note the contrast with vaccination, where delegation to PTA is expressly allowed. The two rules are widely confused.
Before the first draw a pharmacy needs a suitable private room not used for anything else at the time, written Standardarbeitsanweisungen in its quality management system, notification of the state authority at least one week beforehand, and a route to an accredited laboratory. The Mustercurriculum for the training is due by 2 November 2026, but it is not a precondition for starting.
